Why Checking the Morning Forecast Is Not Enough

Wethra illustration of rain arriving between the morning journey and the trip home.

The morning can look perfectly reasonable while the trip home is quietly preparing other ideas.

Eight in the morning is not the whole day

A quick check before leaving is usually based on what is happening now. If the pavement is dry and the temperature feels mild, taking extra layers can seem excessive.

The problem is that your coat decision at 8am also has to work at 5pm. By then the rain may have arrived, the wind may be stronger and the temperature may have dropped.

Check the hours you will actually be outside

For a commute or school run, the outbound and return times are two separate weather windows. Looking at both is more useful than relying on a daily summary or the conditions at the front door.

Wethra compares those windows before making a recommendation. A change later in the day can affect what goes in your bag even when it does not affect what you wear straight away.

Small additions can rescue the return trip

A packable waterproof, dry socks, gloves or a light extra layer do not take much room. They can make a large difference once the weather turns.

The aim is not to carry half a wardrobe. It is to spot the one thing your later self would otherwise wish you had brought.
