Why I Built Wethra

A forecast can tell you exactly what the weather is doing and still leave the most practical question unanswered.

The forecast was not the problem

Most weather apps are good at showing the forecast. You can see the temperature, rain chance, wind and UV in seconds. The awkward bit comes next: working out whether that means a coat, a waterproof, different shoes or something extra for later.

Wethra was built to handle that last step. It uses the forecast, but the answer is about the decision you need to make before leaving.

Your plan changes the answer

Twelve degrees and light rain is one thing on a short walk. It is another on a bike, at the side of a football pitch or halfway through a day outdoors. The activity changes how warm you will feel, how long you are exposed and what you can sensibly carry.

That is why Wethra asks what you are doing and when. A useful recommendation has to fit the day, not just the postcode.

The trip home belongs in the plan

People often dress for the weather they can see through the window. That works until a dry morning turns into a wet commute home or a mild afternoon gives way to a cold evening.

Wethra includes the return time because the layer that looks unnecessary at 8am may be the thing you are glad you packed at 6pm.

Check your own plan

Choose what you are doing and when you will be back. Wethra will check the forecast and give you a practical clothing recommendation.
